The Russo-Ukrainian War

The Russo-Ukrainian War is the current war going on between the countries of Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine is a large country bordering the Black Sea and has had some disputed territories, but recently, the tension has escalated.
In 2014, under the leader of Vladimir Putin, Russia annexed the peninsula of Crimea from Ukraine, which was a major port for Ukraine. This started the tension, and as Russia tried to annex more and more of Ukraine, it became clear that they were trying to invade it.
In 2022, Russia launched a full scale invasion on Ukraine, but Ukraine had some advantages. All of NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was on their side, so they supplied Ukraine weapons.
Also, Russia has been suspected to be using outdated weapons. Even though they claim to have the world's second largest military force, that is only in terms of personnel. Almost all of their weapons like tanks and missiles are suspected to be outdated, some of them even dating back to the beginning of the Cold War in the late 1940s.
So far, there have been over 24,000 deaths and over 11 million displaced. The property damage so far is also a hefty amount, over $565 billion.
They have also captured Wall Street Journalist Evan Gershkovich, who is being held in a prison in Moscow. Russia claims that he was caught spying on them, but the United States denies this.
Recently, Russian troops invaded the Ukrainian region of Bakhmut, which they have now almost completely taken over. However, Ukraine may stand a better chance now that Slovakia and Poland have given them MIG fighter jets to help take Russia down, but they are still outnumbered.
In fact, many refugees from Ukraine are moving out, with fear that their cities might be bombed and invaded as well. In fact, many of those refugees have been flowing into countries who are part of NATO, like Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. So far, the violence is not stopping, and there is no foreseeable ending in sight for now.
We at The Weekly News stand with Ukraine and condemn the war.
