Smoke continues to affect air quality in both the United States and Canada as over 880 wildfires burn in the North American country. Officials say that of those 880, about 580 of them are out of control, with the most severe wildfires located in British Columbia, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Ontario, and Quebec. However, the areas currently most at risk are Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alberta, while Ontario and Quebec are at low risk. Two firefighters have died so far while battling the blazes, and thousands of people have been forced out of their homes. Over 24 million acres have been burned, and firefighter crews from all over the US are also going into Canada to help out. This wildfire season has been the worst in over 40 years, and it is on track to become the country's worst in history if they are not stopped. However, firefighters will also need some luck and the help of Mother Nature to stop these unpredictable, raging wildfires.
On another note, Tropical Storm Calvin is approaching Hawaii, provoking a state of emergency for over 1 million people on the Big Island. Calvin is expected to mainly affect the south side of the island, dumping between 4 and 8 inches of rain and up to 10 inches in some spots- along with some strong winds. Landslides are also a concern on the tall volcanoes, and flash flooding could also be an issue. Thankfully, the storm has not intensified too much, is fast-moving, and is expected to stay a tropical storm.
